Outdoor tennis has continued throughout the season. On Mondays Sherry’s successful mixed league floodlight tennis continues. Twenty players were signed up, with more men than women. The scoring seems complicated but Sherry promises there will be a winning team. On Tuesday mornings the seniors play two hours of non stop tennis and now require three to four courts. Only one session was cancelled last year due to poor weather. In order not to meet their spouses in a shattered state, the seniors stay on, reluctantly, and recharge their batteries in the Four Horseshoes. On Wednesday evenings men’s floodlight tennis continues, from clock change to clock change. Chris Smith has organised this popular session for years, involving many different players. Friday morning Ladies session continues, organised by Brenda Mortimer. This is a more leisurely session which does not require the same kind of recuperative activity afterwards.
The weekend activities continue with junior coaching on Saturday morning, and mixed club and men’s sessions on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings respectively. Aldershot and District LTA league matches, involving three ladies and four mens teams are also played at weekends. Brenda’s Tea Party tennis continues on the last Sunday of each month - no calories are lost, the teas are super! Non tennis players are often surprised when I say club tennis flourishes during the winter. That it does is mainly due to our excellent drainage on the Court Surfaces. However, for those wanting guaranteed conditions, both male and female members run doubles on the Army Indoor Courts throughout the winter. |
