Sunday the 11^th May provided a lovely warm sunny afternoon for the Monday Night Winter Mixed Finals. A sure contradiction to the conditions played during the winter where league members braved the below freezing temperatures, icy winds and chilling rains. That may be a slight exaggeration but there were some chilly early evenings under the court lights!!

Twenty players turned out for the finals, including 5 reserves which helped to keep the format organised. After 4 rounds of mixed and doubles sets, the scores were tallied, the winners were announced and the trophies were given. A lovely spread of homemade cakes, chicken pasties and other nibbles were also enjoyed by all.

1^st Place: Team Federer [David and Janet Carl, Jane Martin, Ray Ristow, Mark Harris]

2^nd Place: Team Jancovic [John Leach, Sam Fleming, Tony and Mary Newton, Edward Woods (reserve)]

3^rd Place: Team Henin [Paul Buchanan, Estelle Cash (reserve for Margaret Buchanan), Mike Andrews, Jane Woods (reserve),

Brian Cormack]

4^th Place: Team Nadal (Mark and Sherry Mansfield, Walter Noronha (reserve), Tom Hawkes (reserve), Carly Fleming] 

Although we had many chilly nights of tennis, the spirit and camaraderie of the players made the Monday Night Winter League successful and enjoyable. It was an excellent way to get ourselves off the couch during those dark early nights of winter. A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped to captain on their nights of play and who helped on Finals day.
